What is the Maddy Institute?
The Maddy Institute is a nonpartisan, nonprofit public policy institute for the San Joaquin Valley.

Our Purpose
1.
To provide a non-partisan venue for the thoughtful discussions on important public policy issues facing the San Joaquin Valley, California and the Nation.
The Maddy Report, Valley Views radio program, and Maddy Daily news aggregator provide timely updates and expert insights on key issues facing the communities in the San Joaquin Valley.
2.
To increase participation in the democratic process.
The Maddy Associates program brings together community leaders, stakeholders, and engaged citizens for meaningful conversations about the future of the Valley. Our public forums, like the Ag Summit, offer opportunities for cross-sector collaboration and problem-solving.
3.
To help prepare the next generation of civic-minded business, non-profit, and government leaders.
Our internship programs provide hands-on opportunities for qualified college students to engage in public service and learn the skills needed to become the next generation of leaders in the San Joaquin Valley.
4.
To improve the engagement, efficiency and effectiveness of government.
The Maddy Institute fosters collaboration among the Valley’s academic, government, and community leaders. Our partnership with the Valley’s four public universities—California State University, Bakersfield, California State University, Fresno, California State University, Stanislaus, and University of California, Merced— allows the Institute to leverage the Valley’s intellectual resources to address critical regional and state issues.
How Does The Maddy Institute Operate?
The Maddy Institute is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supported by an initial endowment from the State of California, as well as on-going support from public and private foundation grants, partnerships with related organizations and from the generous support of its home campus, California State University, Fresno.
The Maddy Institute policy is set by its Board of Directors composed of political, governmental, educational, civic and business leaders from throughout California. The day-to-day operations are administered by the Institute’s staff.
