The Maddy Report

The Maddy Report is a production of the Kenneth L. Maddy Institute.

The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute is a nonpartisan public policy institute established by a unanimous vote of the California Legislature in 1999. The Maddy Report is the Institute’s weekly public affairs television and radio program, airing Sunday mornings on ABC30 and KVPR – Valley Public Radio, featuring interviews with policymakers, candidates, and subject-matter experts on issues facing the San Joaquin Valley, California, and the nation. Because the program’s credibility depends on it, we hold our production and interview process to standards of accuracy, fairness, and transparency, and we are accountable when we fall short of them.

Our Commitment to Accuracy and Transparency

• Nonpartisan booking. The Maddy Report is nonpartisan by design. When an episode covers an election, ballot measure, or race involving candidates for public office, we make a good faith effort to extend a parallel invitation to opposing candidates in that same race, so no single perspective is presented without the opportunity for rebuttal or balance.
• Advance preparation and verification. Interview questions are provided to guests in advance, and the facts, figures, and claims raised in each segment are checked against original sources, public records, or direct confirmation with the guest or relevant agency before the episode airs.
• Clear separation of fact and opinion. Guest commentary and analysis are presented as the views of the speaker, not as the Institute’s own position. The Maddy Report does not take editorial positions on the policy matters it covers.
• Disclosure of interests. Where a guest, sponsor, or institutional partner has a direct financial or organizational stake in the topic being discussed, that relationship is disclosed on air or in accompanying program materials.
• Editorial independence in booking. Decisions about which guests appear on The Maddy Report are made by Institute staff based on relevance to the public interest and the guest’s role in the issue at hand, not on the basis of sponsorship or donor status.

Corrections Process

We correct errors of fact promptly and openly.

• How to report an error. Anyone who identifies a factual error in a Maddy Report segment may contact us at themaddyinstitute@mail.fresnostate.edu or (559) 278-1133. Please include the air date and segment topic, along with a description of the error.
• Review. Institute staff review each reported error against the original source material or recording. If the error is confirmed, we correct it as soon as practicable.
• How corrections are made.
• The corrected information is published in writing on our website alongside the episode, noting what was corrected and when.
• Where the error is significant to the substance of the segment, a correction is also noted at the opening of the next available broadcast.
• The corresponding YouTube posting of the episode is updated with a correction note in the video description.
• Accountability. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring corrections to The Maddy Report are handled consistently with this policy.
